Hornsey Carnival has records as far back as 1907, when the procession travelled through Highgate and Turnpike Lane, taking four and half hours. The funds raised were in aid of building Hornsey Cottage Hospital (which 100 years later has just been demolished). Later carnivals took place to celebrate events, such as the Queen’s coronation, but it was not until 1959 that it was established in its present format. The procession moves off promptly at 2.30pm from the ‘Old Racecourse Road’ in the grounds of Alexandra Palace, via Palace approach, at the foot of Muswell Hill and proceeds along Park Road, The Broadway, Crouch End Hill, Christchurch Road (halfway break), Crouch Hill, The Broadway, Tottenham Lane, Church Lane, High Street, Priory Road, finishing back at the 'Old Racecourse Road'. Carters Steam Fair will be in Priory Park, and there will be fireworks in the evening, and stalls, bands and school fetes.
