In its 300-year history, the Royal Academy created its first external gallery annex space in 2002 at the renovated Victorian Pump House in Hornsey. The New River Village was developed by St James Homes, which also sponsors an Artist in Residence who has a studio above the gallery space and organises an exhibition at the end of the year-long residency. The gallery is under the curatorial direction of Michael Petry, who is also the Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, London. Mosaica's Pumphouse Dining Bar is located in the same building, offering international cuisine (bookings 020 8340 0400).
